DR. TIMOTHY S. BILKEY,
Hons.B.Sc., M.D., F.R.C.P. (C)

Dr. Tim Bilkey is an Adult Psychiatrist and has specialized in Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in adolescents and adults since 1996.

He is the Director of the Ontario Bilkey ADHD Clinics, where he has assessed over 3400 adolescents and adults with this condition. Through his clinics, he has assessed people from diverse locations across the globe, including Ireland, Scotland, Peru, Japan, Singapore, Africa, Germany, The West Indies and Brazil.

As an educator, he has provided hundreds of academic lectures across Canada and internationally concerning this topic. He has presented nationally on numerous occasions on adult ADHD for the Canadian Psychiatric Association (CPA).

He was the 2008 Content Chair for Adult ADHD for the CPA Collaborative Forums in Mental Health, and is again the 2010 Content Chair for this important educational program developed for primary care physicians and community psychiatrists.

He provides preceptorships to other physicians at his clinics in Stratford and Barrie, Ontario, Canada as part of his educational mandate. Physicians have travelled from across Canada (Eastern Canada, Quebec and British Columbia, etc.) to take part in these preceptorships.

Dr. Bilkey has developed numerous educational programs, including presentations on ADHD across the life span and ADHD and its relationship with addictions. He has a special interest in the area of addictions and ADHD, and is a member of the Canadian Society of Addiction Medicine.

As Adjunct Professor, Department of Psychiatry, Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Western Ontario (UWO), Dr. Bilkey trains medical students and psychiatric residents concerning ADHD and gave the Adult ADHD lecture at UWO in 2009.

Dr. Bilkey developed a documentary on ADHD Across the Lifespan (2005) which is now used as a training documentary across Canada in various settings.

He is a co-author on a paper that has been published on the relationship between ADHD and Bipolar Spectrum Disorder.

Dr. Bilkey has developed an educational program for primary care physicians. This program, FAST MINDS, is now nationally accredited through the College of Family Physicians of Canada and assists physicians in the recognition of the clinical presentations of Adult ADHD.

Dr. Bilkey is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, and a member of the American Psychiatric Association and the Canadian Psychiatric Association. He is a reviewer for educational programs presented for the CPA.

He provides consultation liaison for universities and colleges in Ontario and has presented to the medical communities at universities including U of T, Brock University, Waterloo University, Wilfred Laurier and McMaster University.

Dr. Bilkey has a research interest in the area of Adult ADHD and has researched two of the four Health Canada approved long-acting medications for Adult ADHD (Adderall XR and Strattera). One double-blind, placebo-controlled trial involved multiple sites throughout the world including Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Argentina, Russia, the UK, Mexico and the US.

In early 2010, he signed a book contract with Harvard University to co-author a book on Adult ADHD.

A recognized Canadian expert in the area of Adult ADHD, Dr. Bilkey has been interviewed concerning this topic for CBC, Global TV, Rogers Cable and TVO (see TVO film and panel discussion here).
